Topic: Training ROI and Training PR
During the 1980s, I was "made redundant" as a
Trainer/Training Manager on 2 occasions. At the time, there was
widespread downsizing across the industry and country. I don't know if that
action had to do with the perceived value of training (and my part in it) or if
it would have happened anyway.
In subsequent roles, I always looked to get a "voice at the
table" as I firmly came to believe that a lot of the role of the trainer and
Training Manager is around persuasion and influence - be it in the classroom, on
the floor, or in the boardroom. I noticed that if I clearly establishing the ROI
in training for the stakeholders involved as well as publicizing my successes
(and seeking forgiveness for my failures), that the job of influencing and
persuading was at least half-accomplished when the time came for pro-active
sponsorship for a particular training initiative. At the same time, I get a lot
of calls from training clients saying things like "my boss wants to know the ROI
on x initiative before we go ahead - how do I do this?". Knowing the language of
Training ROI helps my clients to push back on the request and to educate the
requester so that can become proactive sponsors of particular initiatives. So, I hope you enjoy this page of links to Training ROI
